Digital Technology Solutions Professional Degree Apprenticeship (Level 6)

The Apprenticeship through assessment of knowledge, skills and behaviours allows staff to gain a professional qualification.  Candidates will gain an industry recognised BSc (Honours) Degree in Digital & Technology Solutions from Coventry University.

The DTSP Degree Apprenticeship allows staff to develop as confident, competent and capable independent Technology Solutions Professionals. To operate in a range of related roles developing new products and services using digital technologies.


Who is it for?

A DTSP provides technology enabled solutions in a range of areas including software, business and systems analysis, cyber security, data analysis and network infrastructure.

Typical job titles for a DTSP are:

  • Application Specialist
  • Cyber Security Analyst
  • Database Specialist
  • IT Consultant
  • Network Engineer
  • Software Engineer
  • Business Analyst
  • Data Analyst Digital
  • Media Technology Practitioner
  • IT Project Manager
  • Software Developer
  • Software Tester

This includes individuals who are at the start of their career, as well as those who may have already developed practical experience but who wish to develop their theoretical understanding.


Content and Features

Participants will be expected to commit to a 3 year programme of study with a minimum of 20% off-the-job training. Programme delivery will be a certain volume of day release per module. Participants will be expected to manage their workload effectively whilst taking part in a demanding programme of study.

Some of the programme modules include:

  • Software Design Principles
  • Business and Project Principles
  • Hardware and Systems Design Principles (security, networking fundamentals)
  • Mobile Applications Design (mobile databases)
  • Security Applications (ethical hacking, penetration testing)
  • Infrastructure Management (networking, operating systems, servers, active directory)
  • Database and Web Applications (management information systems and web apps development)

Application Requirements

In order to apply for the programme you should:

  • Have successfully passed your probationary period
  • Be a permanent member of staff
  • Have 3 A levels including maths, or equivalent, although it may be possible to accept other relevant qualifications and/or extensive demonstrable work experience.
  • Be located in England (due to Apprenticeship guidelines)
  • Through the Apprenticeship Qualification Support Policy, outline that you have understood the commitment and expectations of the programme. It is expected that this is discussed as part of dialogue with line managers upon commencement.

English and maths

As part of the assessment plan laid out in the Apprenticeship Standard, apprentices without an equivalent level 2 in English and maths (i.e. grades C (5) or above) will need to achieve this level prior to taking the end point assessment. Functional Skills will need to be studied in addition to the Apprenticeship programme.  Provision will be put in place to support staff members who need to achieve their equivalent level 2 English and maths.  For those who have previously attained English and maths at a Level 2 equivalent, evidence of this prior attainment will be required.
