Following the successful launch of our first two cohorts of the Level 7 Senior Leader Apprenticeship, we are looking to launch our third cohort.  This programme involves a Post Graduate Diploma and will be delivered by the Coventry Business School.  This programme is specifically designed to identify and develop the strategic leadership abilities and potential of talented members of staff. It will help to ensure the Group’s long-term leadership resource and support and mirror the Group policy on staff development.

Due to the change in the Apprenticeship Standard, this Apprenticeship no longer contains the MBA, however upon successful completion of the Level 7 Senior Leader Apprenticeship there will be an opportunity in which to top this up to the MBA.  This may not be funded by the Coventry University Group.

Who is it for?

The programme is aimed at Professional Services staff in managerial positions, from across the Coventry University Group, who aspire to a strategic leadership role within the organisation. Participants will be expected to commit to a 21 month programme of study with a minimum of 20% off-the-job training and will need to manage their workload effectively whilst taking part in a demanding programme of study.

  • Global Marketing
  • Strategy and Decision-making
  • Leadership and Change Management



Upon completion of the Apprenticeship, there will be an option to top up to the MBA  (The top up MBA cost may not be covered by the Coventry University Group).

Top up Master's Modules are identified below:

  • Decision Making & Risk

  • Project Management 

  • The MBA Consultancy Project

Application Requirements

In order to be able to apply for the programme you should:

  • Be an honours graduate of any discipline (minimum 2:2 or higher) or hold an equivalent qualification in a business-related area acceptable to Coventry Business School or have 5 years work experience.
  • Have a minimum of two years post-degree full-time work experience in a management/administrative/professional capacity.
  • To allow for substantive learning, not already attained an equivalent Level 7 qualification in Leadership and Management.
  • Have the equivalent of level 2 (GCSE) in English and maths at Grades 4 (C) or above (proof of attainment for prior English and maths qualifications will be required during the application process).
  • Have successfully passed your probationary period.
  • Be a permanent member of staff.
  • Employed a minimum of 30 hours per week by the Coventry University Group.
  • Be based in England (due to Apprenticeship guidelines).
  • Through the Apprenticeship Qualification Support Policy, outline that you have understood the commitment and expectations of the programme.  It is expected that this is discussed as part of a dialogue with line managers upon commencement of the programme.
